Been researching indian wind instruments this afternoon, there are quite a few beautiful examples, this is the Bansuri, made from a single length of bamboo, with about 6 or 7 finger holes, it is the most popular wind instrument in India, and has been depicted in buddhist paintings from around 100 AD.

I took this beautiful piece of music ‘A Symphony Pathetique’ (Montauk in February Remix) by A Winged Victory for Sullen (definitely check out http://www.awvfts.com/) and i dubbed over President Franklin Roosevelt’s address to the US congress after the bombings at pearl harbour. This post by no means expresses my political leniencies, i retain that any war is fundamentally wrong. As a student of history, the oratory skills and the historical significance of this speech fascinates me. Accompanied by this incredible piece of music, the words of Roosevelt, ’December 7th 1941 is a date which will live in infamy’ elevate, and for me are just the beginning of one of the most powerful speeches ever made. As the music continues, it gently soars and drowns out the President’s words. This drowning of Roosevelts words can replace admiration for the speech with reflection on the terrible consequences of pearl harbour and also America’s declaration of war on Japan. As the speech cuts off and the music continues, perhaps the statement, ‘beauty evades all’ comes to mind…
